Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for Forklift Operators to join our sawmill team for Day Shift (Mon-Fri, 5:30am - 2:15pm). This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $27.65 and includes benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K matching and company paid Life Insurance. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

The Forklift Operator drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials throughout the grounds in a safe and productive manner.

  • Participate constructively to the movement and warehousing of products to ensure the Business Unit is able to meet customer requirements for superior products in the most safe and service-oriented manner available. 
  •  Move levers and press pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus
  • Position forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hook tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area or truck
  • Unload and stack material by raising and lowering lifting device
  • Inventory materials on work floor, tallies product and maintains stock rotation.
  • Load or unloads materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device
  • Perform preoperational checks on forklifts and reports any/all service and operational concerns
  • Participate in the quarterly inventory audit
  • Load or unload materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or trucks
  • Communicate regularly with other team members and participates in team effort in work area

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Minimum two years related sawmill / planer experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift operator’s license through company-provided training, or provide proof of a current or previous forklift operator’s license.
  • Ability to operate a hand-held calculator, preferred

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and communicate. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or craw and is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Regularly use arms and legs to get into and out of forklift multiple times a day. Use hands, wrists, and arms to operate forklift and use legs and feet to push forklift pedals.
