Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is looking for a Strip Puller to join our team in Ukiah, CA. The position is on the Day Shift, 5:00 am - 2:00pm and includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K matching and life insurance. To learn more about our benefits click Here 

 

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

Strip Puller will keep production areas clean and safe and assists in other areas of sawmill in a safe and productive manner.

  • Performs a wide variety of jobs and duties as assigned, with a high level of proficiency and accuracy
  • Regularly operates a forklift
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean
  • Separate waste wood from merchantable lumber in a safe and productive manner
  • Performs as a relief operator on other jobs as needed
  • Performs scheduled inspections on equipment and prepares reports as required for management and maintenance personnel
  • Keeps designated areas, as assigned by supervisor, clean and clear of sawdust, wood chips, bark, strips and other foreign objects;
  • Operates chain saw to cut up scrap lumber and broken logs;
  • Uses hand tools to move sawdust, chips and bark into conveyors, bins and scoop on tractor;
  • Operates Bobcat and forklift to transport debris to conveyors or disposal site;
  • May pull strips off of transfer chains into conveyors to chippers;
  • May keep lumber straight on transfer chains to trimmer;
  • Empties all garbage cans in and around sawmill;
  • Provides assistance where needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 6 months related experience and/or training preferred
    • or one year equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred forklift license or ability to train to obtain license
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and memos and write simple sentences.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
