Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC is seeking an experienced Millwright to join their maintenance team based in Scotia, CA! This position is a non exempt position and offers an hourly rate of $28.65 or $43.65 depending on your experience level. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

The Millwright installs, maintains, and repairs machinery and equipment in a safe and productive manner. Operates hand, machine and power tools, forklifts, manlifts, and welding equipment.

 

Key Duties:

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment, including pneumatic and hydraulic apparatus for appropriate oiling and operation.
  • Demonstrates competency in trouble shooting and repairing of pneumatic and hydraulic apparatuses, with a solid understanding of both systems
  • Maintain all material conveying systems according to manufacture’s specifications and company
  • Supports Company preventative maintenance program; works as an integral part of the maintenance
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal
  • Effectively communicates with coworkers when notified of
  • Follows all lockout / tagout, hot work permit and confined space procedures and testing machines for restart.
  • Fill line oilers daily
  • Report problems to the maintenance staff as appropriate
  • Troubleshoots more complicated maintenance problems and provides technical direction to other millwrights as required.
  • May be required to operate a company vehicle on occasion for business purposes, including travel between departments and other designated areas on company property

 

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school.
    • Or minimum two years related Sawmill experience.
    • Or two years technical craft training.
    • Or equivalent combination equaling 1,500 hours on the job training and 50 hours classroom time
  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • Basic Algebra, Geometry and computer skills including MS Office
  • Licensed Forklift Operator/ Certified Man-Lift Operator
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation
  • Proven ability to follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and schematics

 

Knowledge and ability in the following preferred:

  • Lubrication systems and proper lubrication application
  • Basic welding skills
  • Basic oxy-acetylene torch skills
  • Properly install and adjust drive and transfer chains
  • Properly change, adjust, and track transfer and drive belts
  • Understanding and proper use of tools and equipment

Physical Demands: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to stand; walk; climb stairs or ladders; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate tools, equipment, and controls, and perform repetitive motions such as gripping and turning wrenches or other tools.
  • The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, especially when performing maintenance on equipment located in tight or low-clearance spaces.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and maintain balance, particularly when working on elevated platforms or accessing machinery at height.
  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, either independently or with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision (e.g., inspecting machine components); Distance vision (e.g., monitoring operations); Color vision (e.g., identifying wire colors and indicator lights); Peripheral vision; Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • The employee is occasionally required to detect odors, such as smoke, gas, or burning materials, which may indicate safety hazards.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration from machinery such as saws, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, including sawdust, lubricants, fumes, and welding smoke.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, as well as high, precarious places including catwalks, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • The employee is also exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, when working in or around outdoor areas of the facility.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring the consistent use of hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated b company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include: Safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats, and respiratory protection if necessary.
  • The employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.
