Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is looking for a experienced Sawfilers to join the team based in Ukiah, CA.  This position includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K matching and life insurance.  

 

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

Inspects and repairs saws and machine centers, changes and sets up chip heads on quad and gang edger in a safe and productive manner.

 

  • Bench saws, keeping saws level and straight
  • Inspect machine centers in filing room and on production floor and change saw blades as needed
  • Tip, profile and side dress saws as kerf reaches minimum
  • Melt, pour and cut babbit guides as they become worn
  • Sharpen chipper knifes and fitting round saws
  • Change and set up chip heads on quad and gang edger
  • Clean machine centers in filing room and on production floor
  • Change saws in quad, edgers, resaw, trim saw and bucksaw as needed
  • Learn how to bench, tension and level all saws
  • Keep work areas clean

Qualifications

  • Previous saw and knife grinding experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience highly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • To perform this position successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and knowledge of software

 

Physical Demands and Work Environmenthile performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, chemical goggles, sleeve protection, dust mask, chaps and hard hat
