Overview

Allweather Wood Company, LLC. (AWW) is seeking a Breakdown Hoist Operator to join their team based in Woods Cross, UT. This is a non exempt position at an hourly rate of $24.65 and offers full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and 401K match. 

 

Allweather Wood is the largest producer and distributor of waterborne preservative treated wood products in the Western USA. Operating six wood preserving plants in California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, these state-of-the-art facilities enable year-round production of a variety of preservative systems, fire retardants and wood species, including Douglas-fir, Hem fir, and Southern Yellow Pine. With support from two full-service distribution centers in California, Allweather Wood partners with home improvement retailers, lumberyards, and building material dealers to bring a full range of preservative and fire-retardant lumber and plywood products to market.

 

 

Responsibilities

Breaks down units of lumber for grade to sort for Planer in a safe and productive manner.

  • Checks for rocks or other items that could damage planer knives and removes them as necessary.
  • Checks for bad incoming lumber and removes as necessary.
  • Keeps lumber straight going into feeder.
  • Keeps infeed chain straight and clean.
  • Pulls stickers when necessary.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two to five years related sawmill / planer experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Read, interpret, and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as instructions and memos
  • Basic Algebra and Geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral, or diagram form

Physical Requirements

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of weight and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds of weight.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb into and off machinery and equipment numerous times daily.
  • The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. 
  • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. 
  • The employee is also regularly required to sit when operating equipment.
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee will be required to work physically with tools such as shovels, axes, other hand tools, and hand power tools.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
