Overview

Land Security Officer Wanted! Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) is looking for a Land Security Officer to join our Forestry team in Fort Bragg, CA! This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $27.65. We offer full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and 401K Match.

 

In aggregate, The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Forest Operations, secures and protect lands, property, human resources, and other assets of the Company while adhering to company safety expectations.  This position will routinely be required to work weekends, evenings, and nights. The primary area of patrol will be Company properties located in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.

  • Routinely patrols all company properties, secures, and maintains all locked gates.
  • Checks, replaces broken or defective locks and damaged or missing "no trespass" signs or equivelant.
  • Interacts with the public including supervision of approved entry access agreements.
  • Orders parts, manufactures, and assembles locks and keys, maintains lock and key inventory.
  • Assists with maintenance of files on all locks and security systems.
  • Participates in the aircraft observations of Company lands.
  • Promptly investigates allegations of theft, vandalism, trespass, and other acts that may cause loss in value to Company assets or increases Company liability.
  • Writes findings and submits investigative reports to Director of Forest Operations and proper agencies.
  • Maintains contact with law enforcement agencies and attorneys to finalize investigations.
  • Participates in the reporting and planning of eradication activities and prosecution of people cultivating marijuana on Company property.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver license and be eligible to operate company vehicles including automobiles, trucks and/or all-terrain vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Desire and ability to obtain education and training relevant to position including gaining a working knowledge of laws and regulations that pertain to theft, vandalism, trespass, and other acts that may cause loss in value of Company asset or increased Company liability.
  • Experience in a law enforcement related field is desirable.
  • Must have the ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel programs
  • Must be able to work weekends and have a daily work schedule that is varied in the beginning and ending times

Physical Requirements 

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and communicate.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and taste or smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to sit and view a computer screen with use of a keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to observe lands from helicopters/airplanes.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to outside adverse weather and field conditions including steep and difficult terrain for periods of up to 8 hours per day.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • This position may require the following equipment when in the field: eye protection, sleeve protection, hard hat, safety shoes, leather/rubber gloves and ATV helmet.
  • Position travels locally, usually by car, truck, ATV, plane, or helicopter, up to 90% of the time.
