Overview

Mendocino Redwood Company, LLC (MRC) is seeking a Forest Equipment Operator/Excavator-Masticator to join their roads team based in Ukiah, CA. This is a non-exempt position and offers a rate of $28.65 - $34.65 depending on experience. This position also offers full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and 401K match. 

 

In aggregate, The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

Operate the Company’s 538 excavator with a mastication head attached conducting fuels reduction work, clearing roadsides in Mendocino, Sonoma, and Humboldt Counties, Transporting Heavy Eq. with the Lowboy while adhering to Company safety expectations.

  • Operate 538 ensuring safe operation of equipment
  • Perform routine daily maintenance on all trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment, including fueling, servicing and minor mechanical repairs
  • Complete DOT required daily inspections on all trucks and trailers and all DOT related paperwork
  • Prepare daily reports of equipment hours, inventory and fuel used, and DOT requirements
  • Analyze drainage, safety hazards, soil conditions, dangerous areas, and work areas
  • Communicate with Mechanics for truck and equipment repairs
  • Abide by all Company, DOT, State and Federal transportation safety regulations
  • Ensure that all shipping documentation (bills of landing, weight tickets, etc.) required to move with shipment are available for inspection, that appropriate paperwork accompanies shipments when delivered, and that signed bills of lading for proof of delivery are turned in daily
  • Report all accidents/incidents involving driver or company equipment immediately after incident occurs to Supervisor
  • Position travels outside the local area but usually within the state up to 95% of the time
  • Position requires travel and work on Company Lands in Humboldt County up to 30% of the time

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required to possess or willing to obtain a Class "A" Driver’s License, current DOT physical examination card, and clean DMV record.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Heavy equipment/Lowbed hauling experience is preferred

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to machinery in operation, fumes, dust, and loud environments.
  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, and hard hat.
  • The employee is required to work physically with tools such as shovels, axes, and other hand tools, as well as hand power tools related to forestry and construction activities.
