Resaw Operator Wanted ! This position starts at an hourly rate of $25.65. 

 

Humboldt Sawmill Company (HSC) is looking for an experienced Resaw Operator to join our team at our Scotia, CA Sawmill. We offer competitive benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision and 401K matching.

 

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

  • Operate resaw to cut boards that do not meet specifications into boards of lesser thickness or widths according to work orders in a safe and productive manner.
  • Observe lumber on conveyor as lumber approaches saw to determine cut to be made
  • Make proper selection for correct saw set for thickness, width, or infeed roll speed
  • Observe automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls
  • Change saw blades and guides daily
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 30 – 60 days related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, etc.).
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and memos.
  • Ability to write simple sentences and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
  • The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
  • This job requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, hard hat, and fall protection as required
