Sawfiler Bench Needed on Swing Shift!

Hourly Rate $28.65

 

The Sawfitter will assist the Saw Filers with inspecting and repairing saws and machine centers in a safe and productive manner.

 

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Saw Filers with inspecting, installing and fitting saws.
  • Assist the Saw Filers with adjusting, operating, maintaining, and repairing saw sharpening equipment.
  • Use power tools and related hand tools to assist with Saw Filer duties.
  • Assist in the sharpening and balancing of chipper knifes and fitting ring saws.
  • Assist in completing duties as directed by the Saw Filers
  • Keep work areas clean

 

Qualifications

  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school OR three years of related experience and/or training
  • Previous saw and knife grinding experience and/or training required
  • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles, including automobiles and trucks, in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Basic Algebra and Geometry
  • To perform this position successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and knowledge of software
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, chemical goggles, sleeve protection, dust mask, chaps, and hard hat.
