Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Truck/Equipment Mechanic  to join our maintenance team at our Scotia, CA Sawmill.

 

This position offers an hourly rate of $31.65 to $37.65 depending on experience. The company offers secure employment, family-level wages, company paid medical, dental, and vision benefits plus much more. 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 4 years experience in Heavy Duty Truck/Equipment
  • Strong knowledge and experience in hydraulic systems
  • Ability to work Swing Shift

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. The main focus of this position is to repair and maintain Company equipment and/or rolling stock in a safe and productive manner. This person must be able to operate hand and power tools, shop equipment, forklifts, frontend loaders, heel booms, bobcats, and Company rolling stock. Primary area of expertise will be Heavy Equipment, Hydraulics, and Diesel Engines.

Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Maintain and repair equipment and/or rolling stock including trucks, forklifts, frontend loaders, heelbooms, pickups, quads and other rolling stock

  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles; including cleaning, inspecting, testing and operating. Performs servicing and changes tires as needed
  • Review maintenance records of MFP/MRC vehicles, monitor preventative maintenance schedules and update records after maintenance or repair work is completed
  • Comply with hazardous materials written programs
  • Operate power tools, jacks, hoists, grinders, welder and cutting torch; may cut, braze, weld and fabricate
  • Work as an integral part of the Company shop team
  • Clean up shop, wash bay and surrounding area daily
  • Follow safe work practices at all times
  • Maintain written service and repair records
  • Position travels locally, usually by car, up to 25% of the time

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school
  • Minimum 4-5 years related experience required
  • Experience with hydraulic systems is required
  • Master welding and oxy-acetylene torch skills. Including: MIG, Stick, Carbon Arc, Gas Welding, Brazing and Soldering Steel and Aluminum preferred
  • Ability to perform metal fabrication with precise dimensions and specifications preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics preferred
  • Ability to rebuild engines, transmissions, differentials, planetary sets, hydraulic pumps and motors and hydraulic cylinders preferred
  • Ability to utilize diagnosis equipment, including manufacturer software, scan tool, scope, multi-meter, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Demonstrates solid knowledge of proper rigging and lifting
  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • Basic Algebra, Geometry and computer skills including MS Office
  • Must provide your own tools

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
  • The employee frequently is required to climb or balance.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration.  T
