Overview

Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) is seeking a  Maintenance Engineer to join our Sawmill Operations team Ukiah, CA!  

 

The base salary for this position is $80,000.00 to $125,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package. Relocation assistance is offered for this position

 

The primary focus for the Maintenance Engineer Ukiah, CA Complex will be to work closely in collaboration with the current Maintenance Supervisor to improve, build out, and create the following maintenance functions:

  • Establish a CMMS / PM schedule
  • Establish a Root Cause Failure Analysis process with maintenance team
  • Administer a maintenance training program
  • Planning of maintenance projects
  • Improve maintenance inventory process
  • R&D - improvements in operations
  • Act as back up Maintenance Supervisor

The company objective is to manage and advise the maintenance team with deeper knowledge in the Sawmill operations and train with cross-functional and multidisciplinary expertise. The role is designed to manage and guide the maintenance team in support in the activities involved in maintaining and repairing equipment within the mill. Focus will be on providing plant-wide support to the manufacturing operations to safely improve the operations. You will apply principals such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Predictive and Preventive Maintenance (PPM) procedures.

Responsibilities

The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

 

  • Provide plant-wide support to the manufacturing operations and safely improve the operations. 
  • Teach, Develop, and create a training plan for the following:
    • Identify, troubleshoot, and eliminate mill downtime and productivity issues
    • Optimize equipment uptime, reliability, and efficiency by analyzing equipment performance data and maintenance practices and implementing improved and/or more appropriate programs, procedures, systems, and enhancements
    • Manage, implement, and monitor programs including but not limited to: Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, Condition-Based Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance and FMEA programs
    • Conduct analysis and investigations and provide leadership to others in Failure Mode Analysis & Root Cause Analysis on equipment uptime and plant capacity. Report conclusions and make recommendations for improved programs and practices
    • Develop project proposals with scopes of work and financial justification
    • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and make recommendations regarding equipment and organizational performance that adversely affect efficiency, cost, quality, plant capacity and production
    • Lead the creation and review of maintenance procedures and policies
    • Recommend improvements designed to increase efficiency, effectiveness and quality while reducing costs
    • Collaborate with counterparts at other Mendocino Companies sites to promote on-going communication concerning maintenance issues and programs
    • Assist in identifying and providing training to maintenance and production employees
    • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluating equipment.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of the corrective actions monthly
    • Directly supervise maintenance personnel in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws
  • Coach employees in attainment of Company objectives and individual goals in accordance with Company guidelines and performance management system

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten years related progressive sawmill maintenance experience including leadership of other maintenance personnel OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must maintain and carry a valid driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • Basic Algebra, Geometry and computer skills including MS Office
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation
  • Proven ability to Build, Train, and certify detailed work instructions
  • Experienced with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical controls, as well as machine and machine control design are required. 
  • Familiar with OSHA codes.
  • Advanced skill levels with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Database software/Access (macros, pivot tables, user forms, data analysis pack).

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
