Overview

Mendocino Forest Products is seeking an experience Superintendent for our Ukiah Sawmill Fenceline and Remanufacturing department. 

 

The base salary for this position is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.

 

In aggregate, the Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities

 

Summary

Manages production, planning and control for the fence-line, shipping and remanufacturing areas of the Sawmill.  Continues to develop and evolve effective and efficient remanufacturing operations in conjunction with the Manager, Remanufacturing while maintaining safe operations as a primary focus.

 

  • Directly and indirectly supervises team leaders, and hourly production and laborer employees at the sawmill facility.
  • Coaches employees for attainment of Company and individual goals and objectives in accordance with Company guidelines, and performance management system.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees.
  • Meets with management daily to review current issues, production goals, quality standards, and to obtain information to allow for the successful fulfillment of customer needs, both internal and external.
  • Regularly reviews with employee’s production progression, quality goals, and to identify supply needs.
  • Manages multiple activities by establishing priorities that provide for continuous process improvement and support of the facility’s business objectives.
  • Coordinates production activities to obtain optimum utilization of human capital, machines, and equipment with full operational knowledge.
  • Maintains a safe working environment in and around the manufacturing facilities.
  • Regularly works with Supervisors to ensure activities support operational needs and activities.
  • Schedules work groups and timing to meet production goals.
  • Works with Sawmill Operations Manager and other Company management as needed to establish short- and long-term objective and plans for completion of approved goals.
  • Develops in concert with Manager, Remanufacturing the annual budget, and works to attain budgetary plans.
  • Develops, maintains, and distributes management, and production reports as required.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred
  • Minimum of ten years sawmill or industry related production experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • An individual should have a working knowledge of Database software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This job may require the following equipment when in the field: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes, sleeve protection, safety vest, and a hard hat.
