Overview

Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC., The industry leader in sustainable forest management, seeks a Purchasing Manager to join our team. 

 

The base salary for this position is $100,000.00 to $130,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.

As a member of the management team, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the procurement of MRO Supplies and consumables for a multi-location lumber processing and distribution company, crossing functional and geographic boundaries. Individual will collaborate with company leadership to plan and implement a coordinated overall purchasing team to leverage scale.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with operations to facilitate an optimal flow of desired supplies through the manufacturing plants and direct purchasing group to source lowest cost for targeted quality requirements.
  • Manage a purchasing team, to include meaningful team calls to achieve common organizational goals and foster communication.
  • Improve purchasing procedures while maintaining relationships with internal management and outside vendors to manage proper stock levels and
  • Enhance, develop, and continuously improve procurement rules and regulations.
  • Establishing guidelines on how often the company gets price quotes for items, the number of bids to accept and which vendors to consider.
  • Analyze spend of multilocation company to leverage scale and buying power.
  • Work with transportation team to minimize freight and shipping expenses.
  • Identify and present opportunities to departments for centralized ship points, inventory, and standardization of like parts.
  • Implement process and software to manage and maintain desired inventory levels with the ability to identify obsolete parts to be reassigned or liquidated.
  • Discussing contracts, evaluating quality, price, reliability, technical support and availability of goods and services.
  • Communicate regularly with personnel from mills, distribution centers, and other sources to be aware of market fluctuations in price, availability, and quality.
  • Communicate regularly with operations leadership regarding supply trends, price trends, product opportunities, actual production volume, and production needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of new product offerings in our industry and work with various departments to research potential new solution strategies.
  • Manage multiple priorities, work with a sense of urgency and demonstrate problem solving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of MRO purchasing experience, preferably for multi-location manufacturing or distribution operations preferred.
  • Must be an effective manager with demonstrated ability to develop people to achieve high levels of success.
  • Proven success at building strong and/or long-term relationships with vendors, customers, and coworkers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and networking skills.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, discuss financial statements, budgets, demand forecasts and other models.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel by car or plane as required for success, less than 30% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
