Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for an experienced Boiler Operator to join our Power Plant team in Scotia, CA!

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;

  • Operate and monitor all equipment on the Boilers, Steam System, and Water System.
  • Maintain proper water chemistry.
  • Perform other duties as outlined by supervisor or lead person and relieve turbine operator and fuel pusher during break periods.
  • Know how to start and stop boilers and the turbine/generators in a safe and efficient manner and bring them on and off line
  • Know the Bailey control system and control any associated part of the plant through the Bailey control system
  • Know how to operate service booster and treated water make-up pumps and how to valve them in and out
  • Know the controls and operation of the cooling water circulation pumps, fans and basin water level
  • Know the electrical equipment (including 13,800 volts down to 110 volts)
  • Control and operate any piece of equipment in the power plant (both in manual and remote)
  • Regularly monitor the plant Air Quality and take corrective action to prevent violations
  • Monitor, test and maintain proper power plant chemistry
  • Follow Company Policies and Procedures
  • Other Duties may be assigned as needed 

Qualifications

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of the Bailey control system

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
  • May frequently be required to sit, smell, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • The personal protective equipment requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • This job requires eye and hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety vest, safety shoes, fall protection, hard hat, welding protection, sleeve protection and respirator.
  • The work environment is usually loud in noise and will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside adverse weather conditions, vibration, wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, dust, dirt, grease and machine noise.
  • This job requires climbing approximately 100 stairs regularly,  up and down per day.
