Overview

Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is seeking an experienced Manager, Quality Assurance to over see our facilities in Oregon, Washington, Colorado and California. 

 

The base salary for this position is $100,000.00 to $115,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package. Relocation assistance is offered for this position

The position is responsible for overseeing quality systems at the company’s facilities including, treating plants, distribution centers, sawmills, vendors, and contract manufacturers.  This requires directing quality improvement efforts as well as implementing quality improvement initiatives within these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect products to help manage lumber quality and grade to maximize value.
  • Manage size control program, statistical process control, and optimization systems.
  • Works with employees providing training and promoting development of their grading skills.
  • Performs QC audits at each facility.
  • Focus on continuous improvement, customer requirements and product quality.
  • Identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
  • Travel potentially long distances as required to accomplish assignments
  • Carry out special projects as assigned.
  • Discusses quality assurance concerns with management and Quality Assurance Director.
  • Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in lumber grading or relevant experience in lumber manufacturing and lumber quality control.
  • Certified grader in NGR and redwood grades preferred, other grader certification will be considered.
  • Optimizing scanner and statistical process control experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Quality Control auditing preferred
  • Must maintain and carry a valid drivers license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • An individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft office

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This job may require the following equipment when in the field: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes, sleeve protection, safety vest, and a hard hat.
  • The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
