Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is looking for a Skilled Machine Operator (Planerman Trainee) to work with us and learn to run our Planer at our Ukiah Sawmill Planer department. Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.  The key areas of focus for this position are as follows; Learning to Maintain, Repair, and Operate the planer machine in a productive efficient manner to produce the highest quality lumber required by the Company

  • Relieves Planerman & other operators during breaks, vacations and other absences
  • Must be willing to work on any shift as needed
  • Checks with Supervisor for machine assignment daily
  • Inspects machine, and operates machine
  • Resets and calibrates machine
  • Collects reports and enters data into computers
  • Checks lumber sizes and adjusts machines as necessary
  • Communicates regularly with other team members
  • Keeps work areas clean
  • Maintains Chemical Spray system
  • Sharpens planer knives as needed
  • Greases all areas around the planer machine
  • Operates hand tools, power tools, and forklifts
  • Will need to acquire the appropriate tools to maintain the planer
  • Follows all lockout/tagout procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One-year related sawmill / planer experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read and understand lumber calipers
  • Apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to add, and subtract, two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit
  • Frequently the employee is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • The personal protective equipment requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, hard hat, and fall protection as required
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
