Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $21.22

 

Humboldt Sawmill Company (HSC) is looking for talented individuals to join our Scotia, CA Sawmill team. You must be willing to work Swing / Night Shift (5pm - 2 AM). You will receive an additional  $1.00 an hour Shift Premium.

 

You will learn to ensure constant Inventory Flow, Cross Train to perform Relief Jobs, Operate and Certify to run a  Bobcat and Forklift in a safe productive manner,  and other skills to support sawmill operations in a safe and productive manner.

Responsibilities

Chain Pullers: will learn and be responsible for the following:

  • Pull lumber from a moving chain and place in units according to specie, grade, length, and width in a safe and productive manner.
  • Pull lumber from moving chain, and ensure lumber is straight on ends and is stacked properly
  • Place lumber in units according to specie, grade, length, and width
  • Push out lumber carts when full
  • Operate a small chop saw used for end trimming
  • Assist with changeovers
  • Assist with bar-coding on a rotational basis
  • Assist with general clean up when chain is not running
  • Keep work area clean

Strip Pullers: will learn and be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure constant production flow by performing relief positions in the manufacturing or distribution facility in a safe and productive manner.
  • Perform a wide variety of jobs and duties in a relief capacity and or assignment, with a high level of proficiency and accuracy
  • Drive forklift to transfer lumber units from stacker outfeed to green yard
  • Operate the Stacker to stack lumber units in solid packages or stack lumber on sticks for drying depending on final destination
  • Regularly check machines and make adjustments as necessary based on lumber sizes
  • Operate Bobcat to transport debris to conveyors or disposal site
  • Keep equipment and work area clean
  • Work toward proficiency in additional positions for machine center operations
  • Performs scheduled inspections on equipment and delivers reports as required for management and maintenance personnel
  • Communicate regularly with other team members and participates in team effort in the work area

 

Qualifications

  • inimum ine year related experience and/or training.
  • Willingness to work weekends and off shift dependent on market conditions
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Preferred forklift license or ability to train to obtain license
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and memos and write simple sentences.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
