Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Specialist  Wanted!!

Mendocino Forest Products LLC, (MFP) is looking for a talented and experienced Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Specialist to join our EHS team in Ukiah, CA.

Implement and review environmental, health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and Company Policies. Maintain and encourage a safe behavioral culture. Work closely with EHS Manager and Director for EHS management and initiatives.

• Implementation/facilitation of safety policies, procedures and behavior-based safety program
• Assist in the evaluation of compliance with environmental and safety policies, programs, procedures, systems and regulations
• Monitor employee exposure to safety and environmental hazards
• Provide support for employee safety and hazard communication training (HAZCOM)
• Evaluate personal protective equipment needs and requirements for work areas
• Assist in maintaining safety contingency plans and documentation (fires, spills, emergency response)
• Identify hazards within facilities, recommend corrective or preventative measures, assist in implementation
• Maintain company process for investigation of accidents and injuries
• Compile and submit accident reports as needed and assist in management of internal accident reporting program
• Coordinate with site EHS Manager and Senior Environmental Specialist with implementation of field related tasks
• Assist with new employee orientation training and employee safety training
• Provide field support for managing environmental tasks, including storm water monitoring, inspections, sampling and reporting; solid waste management; hazardous waste inspections, manifesting & characterization; compliance with air, water, and waste; interaction with government agencies during inspections; data collection review and data quality assurance
• Maintain Near Hit Observation (NHO) records, training records and lagging indicators/weekly drivers safety data for reporting to management
• Provide support for post incident drug testing and medical evaluation of injured employees

• Associate degree in Safety Sciences or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field is preferred
• Experience and commitment to implementing a safety culture committed to risk reduction; knowledge of behavior-based safety programs, familiarity with hazard identification and risk assessment and control, and experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis is preferred.
• Knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations. Knowledge of EPA, State and regional air quality, water quality and hazardous waste regulations is preferred
• Experience involving components of environmental compliance and related tasks is preferred
• Training in hazardous waste, stormwater, and familiarity with permit requirements is preferred
• Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles
• Experience operating machinery and heavy equipment is preferred
• The employee may be required to traverse difficult or inconsistent terrain including hillsides and uneven surfaces
• Required to work in inclement weather conditions to conduct sampling during rain events including working at remote locations
• The employee will split time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor
• Position travels locally, usually within 100 miles one way, and occasionally travels to other locations

• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
• This position may perform tasks of a repetitive nature.
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. 
• The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. 
• The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. 
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
• This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, hard hat, leather or rubber gloves, sleeve protection, leather aprons and face shields.
