Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) is looking for a dynamic HR Payroll Specialist  to join our Human Resources team in Calpella, CA.!

 

As the Payroll Specialist  you will be part of an excellent HR team, which strives to provide outstanding professional support for a wide range of Human Resources activities. The key areas of focus for this position is to coordinate and processes a variety of corporate payroll activities in a fast paced, positive team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Backs-up Payroll Administrator.
  • HRIS and payroll data entry including new hires, separations, tax, banking, 401(k), benefit, payroll, and employee changes.
  • Assists with processing bi-weekly payroll for multiple companies in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepares manual checks as necessary by calculating deduction amounts and obtaining signatures for distribution.
  • Provide ongoing Time and Attendance support to Supervisor and Managers; creating and/or changing employees schedules; assisting with timecard errors and issues; and auditing timecards on a regular basis.
  • Works directly with Supervisors to ensure accurate time/pay reporting on a continuing basis; maintains, runs, and distributes all weekly/bi-weekly management reports.
  • Sort and distribute/mail paychecks to appropriate company locations.
  • Generate/distribute/collect weekly timesheets as directed.
  • Maintains payroll distribution list, generates routine correspondence to employees and/or external agencies; assists with payroll attachments and mass mailings.
  • Maintains payroll and human resources records as required by law or Company practice including all status changes/process.
  • May complete verbal and/or written verification of employment requests.
  • 401 (k) plan processing and database maintenance.
  • Ensures compliance with Company record retention standards, mandatory employer postings, and Company bulletin board policy.
  • May update training records in HRIS.
  • May conduct annual audit of I-9 forms at the business unit level.
  • Participates in special projects as directed.
  • Ability to multi-task, while working efficiently.
  • Maintains positive working relationship with service providers, co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Maintains confidentiality and close attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school - Preferred.
  • Two years related accounting/payroll experience and/or training  - Preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook.
  • HRIS or payroll software experience - Preferred
  • Task oriented individual with ability to change direction quickly and easily while paying close attention to detail.
  • Solid customer service skills with strong, friendly, and supportive phone etiquette.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and communicate and frequently required to stand and walk
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; pack or move boxes with accounting records.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
  • This position requires the employee to view a computer screen and use a keyboard for extended period.
  • Throughout the year the employee will be required to perform duties which may require driving or unloading boxes at storage site, in all types of environmental conditions.
