Log Yard and Byproducts Supervisor Wanted!

 

Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) is looking for an expereinced and talented Log Yard and Byproducts Supervisor to join our management team at our Ukiah, CA Sawmill. The primary focus of this position will be to provide leadership to Log Yard and Byproduct personnel assuring quality, inventory accuracy, and efficiencies in the Log Yard and Byproducts group.

Responsibilities

Log Yard:

  • Leads and trains employees in the log yard to perform activities such as unloading trucks, sorting logs, scaling, decking, and inventorying logs
  • Coordinate’s daily operations with the Sawmill Superintendent
  • Overseas operations of loading logs to outside customers
  • Maintains an accurate level of inventory in the log yard
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance on all machinery and heavy equipment
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Ensures log yard is well organized, efficient, clean, and safe
  • Knowledgeable in operation of heavy equipment

Byproducts:

  • Provides work direction to employees in the log yard Byproducts group to ensure that employees follow company policies and procedures but does not have direct performance appraisal responsibility for them
  • Execute Byproduct merchandising plans to identify and capture revenue opportunities and mitigate risk
  • Coordinate daily byproduct flow with interaction with the Freight provider’s Transportation Dispatcher and other internal employees to handle all outbound shipping and customer pick-ups
  • Implement byproducts weekly flow schedule
  • Assess market competition by comparing the Company’s product to competitor’s products
  • Analyze Byproduct sales reports and provide recommendations for merchandising opportunities as well as preparing and presenting special reports
  • Manage internal and external transportation assets to generate maximum financial contribution
  • Communicate with the site managers daily to discuss daily operations, movement, and availability of products
  • Other key responsibilities include implementing and enforcing standardized work rules to compliment safety, efficiency, and cleanliness

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Five (5) years log yard or equivalent experience
  • Must be proficient in distinguishing various log species, including redwood
  • An individual should be proficient in using inventory control software and similar software programs
  • Knowledge of scaling software preferred
  • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles including automobiles and trucks
  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook

 Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is occasionally required to, sit; stand; walk; stoop or kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, and ability to adjust focus
  • In the work environment there is regular exposure to outside adverse weather conditions
  • The employee will regularly work in or around warehouse or production areas
  • Noise levels can be moderate to loud when outside of the office areas
  • Safety Glasses, reflective vests and safety shoes are required outside of the office areas
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
