Responsibilities

Tallies lumber units by piece, type, grade and size in an accurate manner.

  • Tallies lumber units accurately by piece count, specie, grade and size.
  • Prepares accurate and legible tally tags to be placed on the lumber units or operates computer to enter data and print tags as required.
  • Bands lumber for shipment.
  • Helps place spacers on lumber units.
  • Keeps area around tally room, banding area cleaned and picked up.
  • May drive forklift to transport lumber to storage yard.
  • May help pullers pull lumber and push out lumber carts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months related experience and/or one-month training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and understand instructions and memos. Ability to write simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • This job may require the following equipment when in the plant: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes and a hard hat.

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
