Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is looking for an experienced Director, Quality Assurance to join our leadership team. The successfull candiate will be responsible for oversight of the quality systems at the company’s sawmills, distribution centers, treating plants, vendors, and contract manufacturers as well as direct all quality improvement efforts in implementing quality improvement initiatives within these areas.

Responsibilities

The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

  • Implement and manage quality management systems.
  • Demonstrate insight and vision in recommending approaches and processes for improving quality.
  • Develop and execute plans to meet site specific as well as corporate quality goals and objectives.
  • Formulate and establish companywide quality policies, procedures, and metrics.
  • Interface with sales and marketing, operations, and engineering to establish quality standards on individual products and families of products that ensure products produced to these standards meet customer expectations and the functional needs of the products.
  • Collect and analyze quality data for the purposes of identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and participate in quality audits and corrective action processes by providing training, facilitation, recommendations, and leadership.
  • Create work instructions and operating procedures for new or changed processes.
  • Establish and implement operational quality metrics.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assure systems are in place to ensure quality levels of the finished products meet the documented specifications as well as customer expectations.
  • Establish and oversee systems for measuring vendor quality and driving improvements to vendor quality as required.
  • Establish systems for ensuring inspection and test records are properly maintained in accordance with company and agency procedures.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

This position has no direct reports; however, the position does provide dotted line direction to quality personnel within the company’s operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technical field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing quality systems in a sawmill or planer mill operations
  • Must possess a high proficiency in American Lumber Standard grading rules and Redwood Inspection Service grading rules.
  • In lieu of a college education, 10 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to machinery in operation, fumes, dust, and loud environments
  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, and hard hat.
