Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) located in Scotia, CA  was formed in July 2008 through the reorganization of the former Pacific Lumber Company and related entities. Humboldt Redwood consists of forestry as well as lumber manufacturing and distribution operations. Applies Mechanical skills and aptitude to operate, repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on power and steam turbines and auxiliary equipment such as electrical generators, air compressors, pumps, valves, motors, boilers, filters, scrubbers, etc.  Operates and maintains assigned equipment in a manner to meet operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.  Maintains core operational task qualifications and may be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.


The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;


  • Maintain cleanliness and general appearance of facilities and surrounding work area as needed.
  • Perform routine checks and low complexity mechanical tasks.
  • Perform basic maintenance such as inspect and replace belts, inspect and/or grease couplings, cleaning and preparing parts, oil changes, etc.
  • Operate hoisting equipment. Check parts, special tooling and lifting equipment are available.
  • Provide support and assistance to technicians as required. Perform routine maintenance on HVAC, air compressors, boilers, air dryers, dehydration systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on steam turbines, reciprocating engines, and associated auxiliary equipment (pumps and motors).
  • Operate basic electronic test equipment.
  • Perform low complexity PM and corrective tasks as assigned.
  • Describe station philosophy and operational sequencing.
  • Start, stop and operate drivers.
  • Identify faulty mechanical equipment and bring to attention of senior personnel.
  • Troubleshoot, test, & maintain auxiliary and HVAC systems.
  • Monitor trend data, (vibration, pressure, temperature), and take appropriate action.
  • Read and interpret drawings & schematics.
  • Perform major maintenance on steam turbines, reciprocating engines, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform medium complexity PM and corrective tasks.
  • Repair and rebuild pumps, gear boxes and mixers. Laser alignment of pumps and motors.
  • Perform readings with vibration monitoring equipment.
  • Function as lead on local projects/outages.
  • Perform installation, commissioning/decommissioning, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and mechanical maintenance on power plant equipment. 
  • Schedule, coordinate and inspect the work of third party contractors.
  • Maintain records for required regulatory, and company procedures.
  • Perform high complexity PM and corrective tasks (e.g. boroscope tests).
  • Operate specialized mechanical equipment such as lathes, presses, etc. Commission and decommission large pumps and motors. Perform complex hoisting and rigging activities. Perform QA on manufactured components.
  • Identify when modifications, upgrades and adjustments to maintenance cycles are required.
  • Complete reports based on trend data analysis.


  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical technical training, apprenticeship program, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Have a basic understanding of PLC’s and control systems.
  • Read and interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a proven safe driving record and provide documentation of past traffic violations upon request, as well as maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Effectively use hand & power tools, including precision measurement equipment to determine dimensions and set clearances.

  • The work environment is usually loud in noise and will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside adverse weather conditions, vibration, wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, dust, dirt, grease and machine noise.
