Mendocino Forest Products is looking for an experienced Special Order Lead to join our flagship Calpella Distribution Center. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position supports inventory management processes in Special Orders and Receiving. This position has supervisory responsibilities in regard to delegating special orders to special order crew and ensuring quality/ accuracy of orders built

  • Establish and maintain positive work relationships with both internal employees and external vendors and customers;
  • Complete work order transactions: produce tags and signage and reconcile inventories; hang tags and shipping placards
  • Perform inventory transactions related to work orders;
  • Control and transact purchase receipts;
  • Tally products;
  • Ensure product quality, vendor performance and adherence to work order/purchase order and scheduling specifications;
  • Ensure physical inventory accuracy;
  • Maintain relevant files
  • Verify special orders built correctly
  • Monitor and answer special order e-mails and phone calls
  • Schedule and receive Vinyl and Composite Decking Shipments


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Access and intermediate Excel spreadsheet skills.
  • A high school diploma or equivalency plus a minimum of one year clerical experience in inventory control.
  • One year experience working with building products.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, in person and in writing both with internal employees and external customers and vendors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or picture form.
  • Knowledge of software such as: AS400, Inventory Control Software, and  Lumbertrack knowledge is preferred. 
  • Ability to use a calculator.


  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and communicate.
  • This position requires the employee to view a computer screen and use a keyboard for extended period. 
  • The employee is frequently required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and up to 100 pounds on occasion. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
