    Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) is looking for an organized, systematic, and thoughtful GIS analyst to join our team of scientists and forestry professionals in managing forestlands with a high degree of environmental stewardship. The right candidate will be driven to provide excellent participation and leadership in developing databases and mobile applications to feed our centralized ESRI portal. Must be willing to learn or be knowledgeable of ESRI portal-based systems, authoritative centralized databases, and web-based applications through portal. Successful applicants will work directly with our Director of Stewardship; who, with her GIS team is bringing new technology and solutions to our forest management and forest science teams. Strong time management skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely is a requirement for this position. Passion for working through projects to completion is a must.

    Responsibilities

    • Complete advanced geo-processing requests from forestry and forest-science staff utilizing available datasets.
    • Utilize PYTHON programming and model-builder skills to address advanced reporting requirements.
    • Maintain existing geo-spatial data sets while working with the GIS team to build the centralized, enterprise level ESRI portal platform to collect, maintain, and report on those datasets.
    • Utilize mobile applications including Collector, Survey 123, Workforce, and Explorer to address needs within the business for data collection, workflow, and navigation.
    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing, especial avoiding the use of technical terms or jargon with internal customers.
    • Follow-through on complex assignments in a fast-paced environment.
    • Work on several projects simultaneously and prioritize product delivery as demand necessitates.
    • Participate in team planning meetings to communicate progress and coordinate ongoing efforts.
    • Effectively document projects and procedures developed.
    • Learn skills in order to progress in this position to advance the organization’s data collection, management, and reporting.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from accredited four-year college or university in GIS or Geography with specialization in GIS.
    • A results-oriented mindset including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Advanced geo-processing skills, usage of model-builder, and PYTHON coding skills.
    • Experience developing mobile applications on the ESRI platform, creating domains and schema, utilizing graphic design, and working in SQL a plus.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to take feedback from forestry and forest science professionals to meet their needs as new tools or datasets are developed or existing tools or datasets are refined.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Must carry or be able to obtain a valid California Driver’s License and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines.
    • Travel within the state of California 10-15% of work time.

     

    Physical Requirements

    • The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Ability to navigate alone in remote mountainous regions using map and compass, may include hiking or walking long distances.
    • Position may require travel locally, usually by pickup, up to 25% of the time.
