    Mendocino and Humboldt Redwood Companies, industry leaders in sustainable forest management, seek a forest management professional to support our inventory department through every stage of carbon project management and development – including project implementation, verification, and monitoring. Successful candidate must have the technical skills to carry out the quantitative analyses required of carbon project verification and monitoring. The candidate must be prepared to lead field verifications, ensure annual reporting requirements are met for all existing projects, develop the technical documents supporting the verifications (field and desk); and understand the underlying statistical and growth models used to develop the projects. Mendocino and Humboldt Redwood Companies are growing their carbon project portfolio – this is an excellent opportunity to lead private carbon project development and strategy for forest carbon offsets.  The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, organize, implement, and maintain carbon inventory for various carbon projects
    • Develop and complete statistical analyses for forest carbon inventory datasets
    • Manage field data collection of on-the-ground forest carbon data for project development and maintenance
    • Manage the portfolio of existing projects including annual reporting, desk audits, and third-party verification services required for projects.
    • Work with forest inventory analyst and forest managers to develop and maintain carbon projects.
    • Provide strategic leadership on timing for carbon project development, reporting, initial third-party verification; and second verification.
    • Develops and implements contracts and budget for verification services, forest cruising, and registration fees for acquired carbon offset credits.
    • Provide annual report on available carbon credits; works directly with forest managers to ensure maintenance of carbon credits.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Forestry, Natural Resources or sampling/mathematics field; minimum two years’ experience in forest inventory analysis or management; with one year of experience in carbon project management; verification; or carbon project development.
    • Experience with CACTOS, CRYPTOS, FORESEE, or other similar predictive analytical models. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Excel.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • To perform this position successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ESRI software, relational databases, statistical programs, computer programming, word processing and Internet software
    • Must carry a valid California Driver’s License and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines 

    Physical Requirements

    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb or balance, and communicate
    • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
    • This position may require the following equipment when in the field: eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather/rubber gloves, sleeve protection and a hard hat
    • Position travels locally, usually by car, up to 25% of the time
