    Mendocino Redwood Company - MRC is looking for a Natural Resources Writer to join our Forestry team in Ukiah, CA! We are looking for a creative, thoughtful, and inspiring writer to join our team of scientists and forestry professionals in managing forestlands with a high degree of environmental stewardship. The right candidate will be driven to communicate our land ethic to key stakeholders including governmental agencies, neighbors, and our local community; as well as our internal company community. Must be willing to learn or be knowledgeable of potential natural resource grant opportunities as well as protecting watershed resources and making certain our internal policies are clear to our staff through a newly revised management plan. Successful applicants will work directly with our Director of Stewardship; who, with her team work on a number of exciting projects at any given time; so this position will mostly work independently. Strong time management skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely is a requirement for this position. Passion for telling our story through all these outlets is a must. The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

    Responsibilities

    • Writes clear, concise, grammatically correct copy for technical documents, grants, etc.
    • Project lead on watershed analysis revisit efforts; including managing regulatory agency mandated timelines for completion and mapping and managing project needs to complete each on time.
    • Lead on merging two existing management plans into one, incorporating all required information into the new plan, with multiple revisions based on review and approval of key internal stakeholders.
    • Identify funding opportunities for aquatic and terrestrial habitat restoration efforts
    • Prepare, submit, and manage grant applications primarily for aquatic habitat restoration efforts (road, crossing, and in-stream work); also outreaching for potential terrestrial habitat restoration grant funding in coordination with forest managers.
    • Other technical writing projects as requested.

    Qualifications

    • Strong commitment to our mission of managing highly productive forestlands with a high degree of environmental stewardship.
    • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in natural resources from four-year college or university; minimum two years’ experience in technical or grant writing in conservation or biological sciences.
    • A results-oriented mindset including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and within budget.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization.
    • Strong computer skills – specifically Microsoft Office suite.
    • Ability to draft, revise, and complete technical documents.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and the general
    • Must carry a valid California Driver’s License and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines
    • Travel within the state of California 10-15% of work time.
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
