    Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) is looking for an experienced Superintendent, Mill Services  to join our Ukiah, CA Sawmill Management team.     Responsibilities

     

    Summary

    Manages production requirements and various aspects of planning-mill, sawmill and/or dry kiln operations and employees in a safe and effective business manner. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Meets with management daily to review current issues, production goals, quality standards, and to obtain information to allow for the successful fulfillment of customer needs, both internal and external
    • Regularly reviews with employee’s production progression, quality goals, and to identify supply needs
    • Manages multiple activities by establishing priorities that provide for continuous process improvement and support of the facility’s business objectives
    • Coordinates production activities to obtain optimum utilization of human capital, machines, and equipment with full operational knowledge
    • Maintains a safe working environment in and around the manufacturing facility
    • Regularly works with Supervisors to ensure activities support operational needs and activities
    • Works with Sawmill Operations Manager to establish short- and long-term objective and plans for completion of approved goals
    • Develops in concert with Sawmill Operations Manager budget annually, and works to attain budgetary plans
    • Coaches employees for attainment of personal and professional objectives
    • Develops, maintains and distributes management, and production reports as required
    • Directly and indirectly supervises team leaders, and hourly production and laborer employees at the sawmill facility
    • Coaches employees for attainment of Company and individual goals and objectives in accordance with Company guidelines, and performance management system
    • Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of ten years sawmill or related sawmill or industry related experience
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
    • Knowledge of Database software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software
    • Must maintain a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines.

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the Sawmill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the manufacturing floor.  Inclement weather conditions may apply. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and communicate.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

     

    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

    This position occasionally requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety vest, shoes and hard hat.

     

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Occasional travel, up to 10% of the time, in a vehicle to other company owned sites will be required.
