    Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join our team in Scotia, CA! To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     The key areas of focus for this position are as follows;   

    Supervises and coordinates the activities involved in maintaining and repairing equipment within the mill.  Provides plant-wide support to the manufacturing operations.  Works as part of a team to support the mill and safely improve the operations.  Supports the mill effort to improve the equipment reliability by applying principals such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Predictive and Preventive Maintenance (PPM) procedures.  

     

    Responsibilities

    • Identify, troubleshoot and eliminate mill downtime and productivity issues
    • Optimize equipment uptime, reliability and efficiency by analyzing equipment performance data and maintenance practices and implementing improved and/or more appropriate programs, procedures, systems and enhancements
    • Manage, implement and monitor programs including but not limited to: Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, Condition-Based Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance and FMEA programs
    • Conduct analysis and investigations and provide leadership to others in Failure Mode Analysis & Root Cause Analysis on equipment uptime and plant capacity. Report conclusions and make recommendations for improved programs and practices
    • Develop project proposals with scopes of work and financial justification
    • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and make recommendations regarding equipment and organizational performance that adversely affect efficiency, cost, quality, plant capacity and production
    • Lead the creation and review of maintenance procedures and policies
    • Recommend improvements designed to increase efficiency, effectiveness and quality while reducing costs
    • Collaborate with counterparts at other Mendocino Companies sites to promote on-going communication concerning maintenance issues and programs          
    • Assist in identifying and providing training to maintenance and production employees
    • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluating equipment;
    • Monitor the effectiveness of the corrective actions monthly
    • Directly supervise maintenance personnel in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws
    • Coach employees in attainment of Company objectives and individual goals in accordance with Company guidelines and performance management system

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.), in a technical field with a minimum of two years maintenance supervision experience or 7+ years of progressive sawmill maintenance experience including leadership of other maintenance personnel. 
    • Experienced with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical controls, as well as, machine and machine control design is required.  Familiar with OSHA codes.
    • Advanced skill levels with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Database software/Access (macros, pivot tables, user forms, data analysis pack). Intermediate to advanced skill level with CAD, Solid Works and/or Visio software required. 
    • Experience in query and macro generation, computer simulation, Facility Layout, Process Flow Mapping, digital image and video editing is a plus.
    • Must maintain and carry a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines.

     

     Physical Requirements

    • The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and communicate. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
    • The employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the sawmill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the manufacturing floor.
    • This position may require the following equipment when in the plant: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes, hard hat and fall protection as required.
